Yesterday, Bleeding Cool ran the news that Dark Horse was to adapt George Lucas' original pitch proposal “The Star Wars” into its own comic book series, as announced at WonderCon. Tomorrow is National Star Wars Day. From a brief gander at the art, it looks to us like they're both rather keen of each other anyway. Mike Mayhew (Avengers, Vamiprella) will provide art while J.W. Rinzler, the author of the 2007 behind-the-scenes book The Making Of Star Wars, will assist with the adaptation. Things have gone fairly smoothly thus far in the brave new world of Disney-owned Star Wars. And this year it falls on the first Saturday of May, which – as any devotee of pulp yarns will tell you – is another storied celebration in the pantheon of nerddom: Free Comic Book Day. Star Wars Art: Comics, the follow-up to Star Wars Art: Visions is available in book stores this month and, just like Visions, is being sold in a regular and a limited edition. According to the reports, this will not be the ship referred to in the comics as Ship – the self-aware spacecraft who harbours affection for Quill. This special 240-page limited edition includes 5 hand-signed, archival-quality 10 X 12" gicle prints, as well as 40 exclusive artworks and 50 extra pages showing artists' processes and sketches. Star Trek Into Darkness finally came out, freeing up J.J.. Like it our hate it, this art was the comic. The somewhat generic story of all the Dark Empire installments is mostly saved or at least obscured by the overpowering aesthetic of this interior art. New concept artwork for Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy arrives along with a confession from producer Kevin Feige concerning Star Wars and Star Trek.
